Breathing light

Breathing light, a painting of a nocturnal journey with a luminous aquarium

The madness of this world overwhelms you more and more each day and you wonder what is the meaning of life on this earth. It would be tempting to close your eyes and look away from this chaos, only, your destiny is not to isolate yourself but to bring this bubble of oxygen, however small it may be, so that the world can breathe light.

The painting Breathing the Light explores the idea of simple, altruistic gestures—small actions that infuse beauty and light into a world often marked by darkness and chaos. The artwork immerses the viewer in an intense nocturnal scene, where darkness seems overwhelming. Yet, this obscurity is pierced by a few twinkling stars, evoking glimmers of hope.

The landscape, both mysterious and captivating, is dominated by dense, wild nature. The vegetation at the bottom of the painting is oppressive, with thick bushes and tangled foliage that appear almost impenetrable. Among this untamed wilderness, certain plants stand out, particularly a species with delicate white clusters, subtly contrasting with the heavy atmosphere of the scene. This lush, dark, and enclosed nature reflects the challenges and obstacles that everyone faces.

At the center of the composition, a young woman appears, walking with determination through this daunting setting. She is shown in profile, her red hair tied in a bun that reveals her face. Her face is adorned with intriguing symbols: a sun tattooed on her forehead and a small black heart beneath her left eye. These elements suggest a wealth of symbolism, evoking both light and emotion. Her expression conveys a blend of fear and resilience, highlighting her internal struggle against adversity.

Her attire, a mix of midnight blue and mustard yellow, brings a touch of life to the somber scene. The blue tunic, decorated with white tribal patterns, seems to reflect a spiritual connection or an affiliation with an ancient tradition. The embroidered sun symbol on her shoulder reinforces the idea of a luminous mission she carries.

The most striking element, however, is her backpack—a glass sphere containing two Japanese koi fish. These fish, red and white, are also marked with a sun symbol on their heads, enhancing their symbolic significance. The glowing aquarium becomes a beacon in the darkness, a stark contrast that immediately draws the eye. The koi fish, imbued with positive meanings such as love, courage, and perseverance, embody the light and vital energy the young woman carries with her.

By bearing this aquarium, she becomes a messenger of hope, a figure of transmission. Her journey through the shadowy forest symbolizes the struggle against life’s difficulties but also the ability to bring something precious to others, even in the darkest moments. This luminous bubble she carries is more than a mere light source; it is a metaphor for oxygen, comfort, and joy—offering a restorative breath in a world suffocated by chaos.
