Thought :
Just as a flower seems fragile in the face of bad weather, you often feel vulnerable and helpless in the face of life's vicissitudes. And sometimes you would like to remain a bud so as not to have to expose yourself to the eyes of others. However, it is a gift that you carry within you. Empathy, gentleness, or fragility are strengths. Do not feel less than others because you feel stronger and more intensely than them, quite the contrary. You must blossom in order to finally flourish.
The painting Fragile and Strong evokes those moments of entrapment in turmoil, when one feels so fragile that they withdraw into themselves, forgetting that the strength needed to break free from this cycle lies within. This painting highlights a paradox: an apparent fragility concealing deep resilience, a potential ready to bloom.
The background of the painting is dark, composed of a gradient of gray and black, creating a heavy, almost suffocating atmosphere. It reflects the inner state of the young woman, an oppressive melancholy where hope seems distant. However, this darkness is not uniform—it appears to vibrate, suggesting a space in transition, a passage between shadow and light.
At the center of the composition, a young woman is curled up in a fetal position atop a golden-yellow chrysanthemum, whose radiance starkly contrasts with the surrounding darkness. Her closed posture expresses a need for protection, a necessary phase of introspection before awakening. This flower, often called the "golden flower," carries a strong duality: in Europe, it has been associated with mourning since World War I, while in other cultures, particularly in Asia, it symbolizes prosperity, wisdom, and longevity. In this context, the chrysanthemum embodies the idea of transition, a transformation process where suffering leads to rebirth. Mourning is not only for lost loved ones but also for past wounds that must be accepted in order to move forward.
Behind the figure, an ovoid shape unfolds, composed of small flower petals or stylized hills. Each segment features distinct patterns, blending dark tones with soft pastel blues and delicate pinks. This element suggests an ongoing evolution—a horizon of gentleness gradually taking shape, like an inner landscape in transformation.
Surrounding this central scene, a set of white plants radiates with ethereal, almost ghostly lines. Their misty appearance evokes a latent energy, a force quietly germinating beneath the surface. These plants seem to hover between the world of dreams and reality, like a promise of renewal waiting for a breath to fully blossom.
Despite her curled-up posture, an inner strength is evident in every detail of the young woman’s stance and appearance. Her very long red hair extends toward the sky, animated by an invisible force, as if an energy within her is seeking release. Her face, inclined toward her chest, is serene, her closed eyes betraying intense concentration. A sun symbol tattooed on her forehead signifies a connection to light, vitality, and transformation, while a small black heart under her eye conveys raw sensitivity, a mark left by past hardships.
Her clothing, composed of multiple layers, reinforces this sense of a protective cocoon but also a transition into something new. A thick dark green scarf wraps around her neck, providing warmth and comfort. She wears a tunic over a dress, cinched by a wide golden-yellow belt, mirroring the luminous hue of the chrysanthemum. The tunic’s upper section is midnight blue, adorned with a second golden sun symbol on her shoulder, accompanied by golden stars, like a fragment of the starry sky draped over her. This celestial evocation contrasts with the deep green lower tunic, decorated with white botanical friezes, reinforcing the idea of a connection between sky and earth, the ethereal and the tangible. The deep red dress beneath features a white botanical motif on her thigh and scattered white stars, like tiny bursts of light beginning to pierce through the darkness.
Despite her apparent stillness, everything in this scene suggests an imminent awakening. The woman seems to be in transition, on the verge of releasing her energy and being reborn. Her retreat is not an end, but a transitory phase—a moment of gestation before blossoming. One anticipates seeing her stretch, rise, and free herself. This is not a posture of surrender but a moment of silence before the impending storm of light that awaits her.
