When you can’t love anymore

When you can’t love anymore, a painting of a fleeting fusion of love between two worlds

Thought : Image avec infobulle

You know what it is to love when you can no longer love. It is only when a person is no longer there that you understand what love is. Without love, humanity would have been wiped out a long time ago. Love is a heart that beats, sometimes until it breaks. Now that you know what it is to love, don't stop.

The painting "When you can’t love anymore" depicts a scene set in a strange environment, with an atmosphere that fluctuates between terrestrial night and the deep darkness of an ocean. The background is made up of a nuanced palette of whites and greens, speckled with white spots that could be either air bubbles rising to the surface or twinkling stars.

The vegetation enhances this ambiguity: stems of leaves in varying shades—white, yellow, red—rise from the ground or the edges of the painting. These leaves seem to dance gracefully, but is their movement caused by the breath of the wind or by the ocean currents? Perhaps they are seaweed emerging from the depths.

At the center of the composition, two main figures occupy a place that is both strange and complementary: one is earthly, the other aquatic. On the ground sits a woman with long blue hair, in a meditative posture. Her hands rest on her knees, her eyes are closed, and her face is slightly turned toward the sky. A solar symbol is tattooed on her forehead, while a small black heart adorns her cheek, echoing another heart on her attire at chest level. She wears a large blue dress decorated with yellow stars, giving her the appearance of a nocturnal goddess. Around her, small white spots seem to float and rise, like stars ascending toward the sky.

Above her swims a red koi fish, the iconic Japanese fish. A solar symbol identical to the one on the young woman's forehead strengthens their mysterious connection. Is it a god of the waters or a spiritual companion?

The koi fish, being an aquatic creature, raises an interpretive question: could the white spots escaping from the woman be air bubbles, suggesting that she is visiting him in the underwater depths for a moment? Or is it the fish venturing outside its aquatic world to briefly join her in hers?

This painting explores the poignant idea that, despite a deep love, some beings may be destined to live in separate worlds. Their connection is undeniable, but the constraints of their respective universes make them incompatible. It is a reflection on love that transcends boundaries, but cannot always overcome fundamental differences—love where every shared moment becomes precious and fleeting, like a breath suspended between two worlds.
