Thought :
You thought so much that you would find a world that would fit you. But instead of seeing what was in front of you, you looked at others hoping to find that thing that would fill your universe. What you had not yet understood was that you already had that thing inside you. We are our universe and we are already complete as we were born.
The painting "Before Your Eyes" reflects on the turmoil we often create for ourselves while seeking our place in life and the universe. In this pursuit, we frequently forget the happiness that already surrounds and resides within us. This relentless quest turns into suffering when we become lost in external expectations and influences, neglecting the wisdom within.
The painting's background portrays this inner turmoil through a gradient of crimson and rose hues that fade into black. This interplay of colors expresses the tension between the desire for freedom and the fear of the unknown, symbolizing the transition from inner peace to the perpetual struggle within. The dark tones at the edges of the canvas illustrate the loss of control and sense of self that occurs when we detach from what truly defines us.
Surrounding the central figure, black vegetation with twisting stems and leaves evokes a sense of confinement, unease, and confusion. It represents not only inner distress but also the unknown and the doubts that cloud the mind when we define ourselves in relation to others.
At the center of the painting, behind the woman, a golden full moon serves as a calming contrast. The moon, with its gentle and comforting light, symbolizes the hope we strive to reach. It represents inner illumination, the tranquility we often overlook amidst life’s frenzy. Its subtle glow acts like a guiding thread, leading the viewer’s gaze toward a hidden truth in the painting’s darkness.
The woman sits cross-legged in a relaxed yet reflective posture. Her vibrant red tunic exudes energy, paired with a blue-gray belt that adds a subtle contrast of calm and fluidity. Her attire, blending the fantastical and tribal, embodies the union of opposites: the strength of passion and the serenity of detachment. She also bears a solar symbol on her forehead, signifying her connection to a higher, perhaps divine, dimension and a profound inner energy.
Her black, majestic hair unfolds like a cloud around her, creating a display of mystical beauty. At first glance, it appears to be merely voluminous hair, but upon closer inspection, it transforms into a cosmos. Tiny stars, constellations, and even a Milky Way in light blue hues adorn her hair, forming a striking contrast between its softness and the vastness it contains. This visual metaphor emphasizes that her inner richness lies not only in her external perceptions but also in the infinite universe within—a world often overlooked yet as expansive as the cosmos itself.
The woman's piercing gaze, fixed on the viewer, is filled with questions and inner turmoil. She seems to search for something—a spark, a tiny detail that could complete her. Her eyes scan the horizon, tense, as if hoping to find answers in the unseen. Perhaps, in this search, she is also looking for another—someone who could finally bring her the peace and balance she so desperately seeks.
Yet, despite her calm and serene demeanor, it is evident that the woman is unaware of the beauty and richness she embodies. Her hair, her gaze, her presence—all radiate a powerful and profound wisdom, but she cannot see what others see in her: a person already whole, far more than she realizes. The painting invites deep reflection on the relentless pursuit of happiness, the tendency to seek externally for what already lies within, and the realization that what we desperately search for is often already there—before our eyes and within our own hearts.
